McCulloch Too Expensive For Rangers

It as been reported that Rangers boss Walter Smith said thanks but no thanks to the Latics asking price of 2.5 million for Scotland international Lee McCulloch

The Gers originally approached the Latics with a 750,000 bid back in January, which was knocked back by Paul Jewell.

McCulloch has since handed in a transfer request and it`s no secret that he wants to return to his native Scotland and play for his boyhood hero`s Rangers.

McCulloch has stated that he wants to take his family back north of the border and give his two young sons a Scottish up bringing.

With Super Lee signing a contract extension last summer there is no way Rangers are going to get him on the cheap.

The asking price is very much the going rate, perhaps a little on the bargain side, for a proven Premiership and international player.

McCulloch is something of a cult hero at the Latics and he is the longest serving squad member at the JJB,

His blood and thunder style of play would be hard for the Latics to replace.

Meanwhile on the international front McCulloch has withdrawn from the Scotland squad for Wednesday's Euro 2008 qualifier against the Faroe Islands.

The 29-year-old sustained an ankle injury in the 1-0 friendly victory over Austria last week.

Scotland manager Alex McLeish had hoped that McCulloch would recover in time to fly out with the squad on Monday; however medical staff ruled him out.

Is 2.5 million the right price for McCulloch?

Pay up if you want him, he is a player worth whats being asked

worth x10 of that! but if he wants to go then maybe we should sell him otherwise he will just be playing with no heart and thinking of Ibrox by the sound of things

I dont think he will play with no heart, but Kee's been a good servant to the club, so with that in mind maybe we could do a deal if he and his family are unsettled in England and want a return north
