Wigan Saturday Round-Up

This week at the JJB as seen the signing of two players, admittedly they were both at the Latics last season

Andreas Granqvist made his loan move permanent by signing a two year contract

Mike Pollitt accepted the clubs offer of a one year deal

Granqvist will be hoping to make more of an impression than he did last season and under Hutch instead of Jewell he may well be given the chance to do so.

Big Mike Pollitt`s signing is great news for the club

Pollitt is a big character as well big physically and his presence around the training ground and dressing room will be good for the morale of the players.

Another bid was put forward to West Brom for midfielder Jason Koumas, with there being no rebuttal of the bid it seems it may have been accepted.

Koumas is currently on holiday and we will have to wait until his return to see if the Latics is an attractive option for him.

There`s been speculation of another striker coming to the club

Both Everton`s James Beatie and Locomotiv Moscow`s Garry O`Connor featuring heavily in links to the Latics

O`Connor appears to be set to sign for Birmingham so that just leaves Beatie.

Whether there is truth in the speculation remains to be seen but would Beatie improve what we have already got?

A fee of £300,000 has been agreed with Preston North End for their want away goalkeeper Carlo Nash.

Nash also featured on loan for the Latics last season so expect this deal to go through as soon as he returns from holiday.

The expected announcement of Martin Hunter as Hutch`s new assistant never materialised, so maybe there`s been a snag somewhere, possibly with Norwich wanting some kind of compensation for the highly regarded and respected coach.

There is a lot of activity around the club this close season. This makes a welcome change from the usual silence, lets hope it continues.
