Ex Forest Man set to be Wigan No 2

Ex Forest Man set to be Wigan No 2

Frank Barlow is expected to be named as Chris Hutchings assistant at the Latics

Barlow started his professional career as a 19 year old midfielder with home town club Sheffield United and went on to play for Chesterfield

Barlow went into management with the Spireites in 1980 and moved to Scunthorpe a year later as assistant

Frank Barlow also worked at Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday, Birmingham City, Bristol City and Walsall before joining Gary Megson at Nottingham Forest as assistant.

Following Megsons sacking Barlow was caretaker boss and led Forest to 6 straight wins

He joined Hull City in June 2006 but left the club 4 months later in October 2006

The appointment of Barlow will come as a surprise to many people, but he is a well respected coach in the lower leagues and someone who Hutch will undoubtedly feel comfortable working with.

Is this appointment good for the club?

He did a great job at Forest with Ian McParland, to take us from nowhere to the brink of the playoffs last season. Not sure he's Prem class, but he should do OK as an ass't .
