This weeks comings and going on`s at the JJB and what can we expect for next week?
The big surprise this week was the appointment of Frank Barlow as assistant to Chris Hutchings
The former Nottingham Forest 'caretaker` manager was not the choice of many (if any ) Latics fans to take up this vital role.
Frank seems to be a coach who is well respected and he has a wealth of experience, though most of it is in the lower leagues, time will tell.
The legend that is Arry DeZeeuw signed for Coventry City proving that he is not ready for retirement just yet.
King Arry will hopefully prove to be a big a success with the Sky Blues has he was with both ourselves and Portsmouth
Carlo Nash put pen to paper on a deal that saw him move from our near neighbours Preston North End for £300,000
Nash spent part of last season on loan at the JJB so he will be known to Latics fans
The big Bolton born keeper is being brought in to provide cover for Chris Kirkland.
Our other big Bolton born keeper Mike Pollitt also signed a new one year deal with the club, so we have some good cover between the sticks
Time appears to have run out on Josip Skoko
The Aussie midfielder was given till the end of June to sign his new contract
With no announcement from the club that he has done so, it looks like Josip is off to pastures new
Chief Executive Brenda Spencer revealed that the club was pleased with season ticket sales after they went on general release on Monday.
Though she didn`t give any figures, Brenda said that the club were hopeful that a new season ticket record would be set.
The lads returned for training on Thursday and looking at the photos in the Wigan Evening Post it seemed like they were all enjoying their first session.
Two players were in talks with the club last week and sources say that they were Bolo Zenden and Jason Koumas.
It is widely accepted that West Brom have agreed a fee with the Latics for Koumas and Zenden is available on a free from Liverpool
Both would be seen as quality signings, but it is understood that there are other clubs interested, so it`s a wait and see.
Rangers agreed, after much haggling, a fee of around £2.5 million to take Lee McCulloch up to Ibrox.
This is a dream move for Lee and he has been one of our most consistent performers for the past six years
Good luck to the lad and he goes with our best wishes.
The Latics old guard got to the final of the North West Masters tournament, thrashing Bolton 5-1 along the way.
They lost to Manchester United 2-1, the winning goal being scored with just 16 seconds left on the clock
For their first attempt at the competition the lads did us proud, well done.
There is expected to be a new signing made next week, apparently a big name, my source informs me, but they wont name them.
Will it be Koumas, Zenden or that new forward that we are chasing?
All will be revealed next week.
A good week or bad week in the life of the Latics?
