Carling Cup Clarification
Clarification of a few points ahead of next week’s Carling Cup semi-final 2nd legs involving Wigan Athletic, Arsenal, Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers.
Away goals will only count after extra-time has been played.
So if Wigan Athletic are losing 2-1 after 90 minutes, then the match will go to extra-time. If the result stays at 2-1 at the end of extra-time, the Latics will win on away goals.
The only situation that can cause the match to go to penalties is if the 2nd leg result is the exact reverse of the 1st leg score.
The final will be settled on the day.
There will be no replay in the final. The match will go to extra-time, then penalties.
The losing finalist will not get a UEFA cup place.
The losing finalist will not get an automatic UEFA cup place, even if the winner gets a champions league place or Uefa Cup spot through the league. That only applies to the FA Cup, not to the League Cup.
