Wigan Athletic Sunday Review

Another good week for the Latics saw them complete the signing of Jason Koumas from West Brom on Tuesday

Chris Hutchings completed his sixth summer signing following much haggling with the West Brom board over the fee which was finally settled at £5.3 million including add-ons

The Latics beat off competition for the signature of Koumas from a host of clubs including Fulham, Aston Villa, Everton and Middlesbrough

Following Lee McCulloch`s departure to Rangers on Wednesday Jason Koumas chose to have Super Lee`s old squad number 10, which could be appropriate has JK will probably be playing in McCulloch`s old left side of midfield position.

Scotland international McCulloch said his farewell`s at Latics Christopher Park training ground before travelling up to Glasgow to negotiate his own personal terms on his £2.3 million pound move north of the border

Life long Rangers fan McCulloch said it was a dream come true but still hard to leave the JJB and he promised to be back to cheer on the Latics when ever possible

Sunderland had another bid for Leighton Baines turned down by the club and Hutch is now in negotiations with Bainesy over a new contract

You don`t get players of the calibre of Bainesy coming through the ranks often so it is nice to see the club doing all they can to keep hold of him.

On Thursday Hutch declared that he had a nice headache for the coming season with three quality keepers at the club in Kirkland, Pollitt and Nash

To be honest I would be very surprised if a fit Chris Kirkland didn`t start all Latics league matches

Marlon Harewood is in town today (Sunday) to sign a deal that will see the striker switch from West Ham to the Latics for a fee believed to be around the £4 million mark

If he does sign today he will be able to jet off to Holland on the five day training camp with his new team mates.

The Latics are due to start their pre-season games whilst they are in Holland

Two games are planned for the coming week.

First up is FC Zwolle and then they face FC Den Bosch before returning back to Wigan on Friday

It is rumoured that Fulham midfielder Michael Brown is 'booked in` for a medical tomorrow (Monday) at the JJB and could be signing on a switch from Fulham for a reported £2.5 million, we`ll wait and see on that one

Don`t forget to pick up next weeks review for a look back on all the coming and goings of the week.

My god do you really think the Villa wanted Koumas??
mackaavfc

According to press reports your mighty Villa are linked with everyone! Just hope you can get a few in before the deadline or you lot may struggle this season
worbo
The squad at the moment would comfortably avoid relegation, if you mean struggle to get in the top 6 then yes i agree we need a few more players.
mackaavfc
I aint gonna argue because it looks like you might be getting DeFoe and Wright-Phillips and I usually end up making bets and at the rate I'm going with Villa fans I could end up bankrupt come May, or very rich!
worbo
Well done to Wigan for showing the right kind of ambition. Great to hear Potato Head at Sty Andrews is envious of Wigan and Fulhams spending. A lot of my mates are Albion fans and they rate Koumas very highly, a match winner, although he is prone to be lazy and tempremental. Delighted you are signing Harewood. It will stop Villa being linked with him! Isn't he the same sort of player as Heskey? (Except he doesnt fall over so easy). I really do rate Leighton Baines, a definite star of the future.
krfeskivilla
Apparently the Harewood deal aint done yet...he's talkin the move over with his family before putting pen to paper. He is similar to Heskey and if he puts in the same effort as Emile did last year he will soon be taken on board by the Latics faithful...if he does sign. Just hope Koumas performs better than the last time he was in the prem.
