'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Portsmouth star linked to Wigan

Following on from yesterday`s rumour circulating around the news agencies of interest from the Latics in Spurs midfielder Danny Murphy, the new speculation this morning surrounds Portsmouth forward Lomano LuaLua

Apparently Pompey boss Harry Redknapp is willing to let the former Newcastle and Colchester man leave for a fee believed to be around the 3 million mark.

With the Latics losing out on one forward this week, Marlon Harewood opting for Villa Park and not the JJB, it appears that some people are making the connection between LuaLua and the Latics a viable one.

Latics boss Chris Hutchings is currently in Holland with the rest of the squad on the pre-season tour and it is safe to say any transfer dealings would be on hold until the Hutch is back in the country tomorrow (Friday).

Hutch has stated that he requires three more players to strengthen the squad, a forward, central midfield player and a left back but I wouldn`t think that LuaLua is the type of player that the club sees to be able to fire in the missing goals of the past two seasons

One ex-player in the news this morning is Pascal Chimbonda

The ex-Latics man is again attracting the attention of Chelsea who are rumoured to have made a bid of 8 million for the France international.

This smacks a little of last summer and the Spurs bids that finally took Chimbonda away from the JJB, what goes around comes around as my Grandma used to say.

Would LuaLua be a good signing for the Latics?

Which players would you like to see targeted for possible moves to the JJB?

No please not LuaLua, we need a striker who is going to stay interested for the whole season
worbo
He is a good lad, and works hard. He is better since Harry told him there are 10 other players in his team he is allowed to pass to, but he can have long periods without scoring. When he does, he is amazing, when he doesnt he is frustrating. It creates a very Love to Hate, but hate to Love relationship between player and Fans. As a Pompey Fan i can understand his possible want away from Fratton Park, but i wouldnt be upset if he stayed. Maybe this is his year. Only thing you all need to do is lock up your daughters, he is a bit of a lad and scores more often with others daughters, than he does for the team.
Midge
Fantastic midge, thats all we need around Wigan on a friday and saturday night, someone looking to pull!
worbo
come on...you cant base everything on his performances last season - his son died, and he had various other off the pitch troubles. Look back to when he was playing well, then maybe we can ask ourselves "why do we want to sell?"
pompeycarpet
It's probably got something to do with all his running off and spouting tripe about 'building the team around him' etc in the papers. If the lad knew what a pass was he'd be fantastic.
Tantona
Great player when he wants to be, last year wasn't. Can win a game on his own the trouble being it's a team game.
storagematt
It's only a rumour and I cant see him coming here to be honest...plus west ham have now shown an interest
worbo
If Lua stays with us or moves on, for sure he has to get that arrogant, lazy streak out of him and put more effort into his game. As mentioned he can turn the game on its head as no one, (and at times I think he doesn't even know's) know's what he's gonna do. I think he will move on from us, as he is going to be 4th choice and he won't like that only being a squad member instead of automatic 1st choice.
blarmy
Given a run of games I have no doubt he can get a reason goal tally, but with an equal balance of magic and extreme frustration along the way. Like Blarmy said, he's not going to like being fourth (or fifth if we sign another striker as some rumours suggest) choice and is likely to move on this 'summer'.
