Brown to ease Wigan`s Baines

Brown to ease Wigan`s Baines

Two separate reports this morning are suggesting, one, that Michael Brown is about to sign from Fulham and, two, Leighton Baines is refusing to sign a new contract that`s be offered.

Firstly, Michael Brown, Fulham`s current captain, was in Wigan yesterday undergoing a medical and discussing personal terms on a proposed £2 million move to the JJB.

Now I was aware of this yesterday morning and reports began to filter through all day, even our friends at Vital Fulham were reporting this.

Following Marlon Harewood`s transfer collapse and his subsequent move to Aston Villa I felt it prudent to wait for official confirmation before taking the plunge and reporting it myself, so what`s changed my mind? Wish FM

Recently our good friends at the local radio station have been somewhat quiet where the Latics are concerned, but on the 8am news bulletin this morning there it was.

"Michael Brown is set to sign for the Latics in the next few days"

If Wish are reporting that Brown will sign then the deal is as good as done, but as we saw with the Harewood move things can get hijacked at the last moment.

Secondly, one news agency is reporting that Leighton Baines has knocked back the offer from the Latics of a new contract.

How true this is I have no idea, maybe it is pure speculation on behalf of the agency or they`ve heard a whisper from someone at the club

With Sunderland bidding repeatedly for Bainesy any news on the brightest young left back in the country is disturbing; I don`t want to see his name in any headlines.

If he has indeed refused a new contract there is still two years remaining on his current one, so there will be no need to sell from the clubs point of view, but I don`t want to speculate on unconfirmed reports.

I will just mention Nathan Ellington

The Duke refused a new contract, signed for West Brom and it was all down hill from there.

You know what I am saying Leighton

Latics v Wolves - Big Game Preview

There is a little bit of pressure starting to mount down at the Latics, no win in seven games and sitting bottom of the pile, the sooner we can get a three points haul in the bag the better.

Gary Caldwell felt that his team were unlucky not to win the game at Preston on Friday never mind lose it, a wickedly deflected effort early on followed by some resolute defending kept the Latics at bay, but a failure to take two excellent chances was the downfall as we lost by the odd goal for the 7t
