Mario leads Latics at Blackpool

Mario Melchiot will lead Wigan Athletic out tonight at Bloomfield Road after officially being named club captain

The Latics will send out their strongest team available tonight for the first friendly under new manager Chris Hutchings on English soil

Following last weeks training camp in Holland the games get a little tougher with Championship new boys Blackpool providing the opposition

Latics have injury problems with Nash, Sibierski, Hall and Taylor are definitely out, while Caleb Folan has shin splints and he remains doubtful

Hutch reckons Blackpool will be a good tester for the Latics and says he is looking forward to the trip to the seaside.

New captain Mario Melchiot will lead out the lads and Hutch explained that it was an easy decision giving the Dutch man the role of club captain

Hutch told the clubs official web site that Mario is a natural leader and will make a good captain and the fact that he is a defender will allow him to see what`s going on in front of him

Is Melchiot the right man to captain the Latics or should it have been someone else?
