As part of the run in to the new season Vital Wigan talks to the Latics fans
The first interview is with Vital Wigan regular number6 lets see what he says:
1 - How long have you been following Latics and what got you started?
Since 1970. My dad took me to a few NPL games and I was hooked.
2 - What is your most memorable moment as a Latics fan? Good or Bad.
Getting into the Football League in 1978 just beats getting into the premiership.
3 - Since you have been following Latics what would your Best Eleven be? And who is your all time favourite player?
1. John Filan
2. Pascal Chimbonda
3. Joe Hinnigan
4. Tommy Gore
5. Arjan de Zeeuw
6. Colin Methven
7. Andy Liddell
8. Jimmy Bullard
9. Peter Houghton
10. David Lowe
11. Graham Barrow
Fav player?
Peter Houghton
4 - What would you say is the best goal you have seen Latics score?
Can I choose 2? Mark Wignall`s thunderbolt v. Chelsea in the League Cup at Springfield in 81-82 season and Gary Teale`s great run and rocket shot at Preston in 04-05.
5 - Best away ground visited?
The Recreation Ground, Aldershot
6 - What are your expectations for the new season?
Avoiding relegation with the current squad, maybe mid-table with 3 quality new signings. Time is running out though and I`m a bit disappointed with our recruitment in the last few weeks after such a great start to the summer.
7- Are you pleased with the new signings made so far and is there any other player you would have liked to have seen us sign (realistically)?.
The new boys have improved the squad no doubt but would like to have seen Bobby Zamora, Sami Hyppia and Robbie Savage at the club. We would be looking at the top half with those 3.
8 - What are your thoughts on how last season ended and how did it compare to your expectations?
A relief to stay up after an awful last few games for a side that would have struggled to make the top half of the championship. I knew we would struggle last season after the sale of Chimbonda, Bullard, Roberts and Kav, 4 major players in our debut premier league season, but I didn`t expect the team to fall apart in the last few weeks like they did.
9 -Despite the new signings, are there any areas in the side you think need adding to?
A 15-20 goal striker, a tough-tackling midfielder and a left-back
10 - Where do you sit at JJB?
In the East Stand on the half-way line
