Wigan Athletic Ask the Fan Pt 4

Wigan Athletic Ask the Fan Pt 4

As part of the run in to the new season Vital Wigan talks to the Latics fans

The fourth interview in the series is with Vital Wigan regular robin lets see what he says:

1 - How long have you been following Latics and what got you started?

I followed them ever since their promotion to the Premiership which I know isn't very long but I admired the team and wanted them to do well in the premiership and glad they are doing so.

I am a relatively new supporter.

2 - What is your most memorable moment as a Latics fan? Good or Bad.

Surging up the table in our first season in the premiership to 2nd and getting all excited as this meant we could be on our way to Europe or even better, Champions League.

3 - Since you have been following Latics what would your Best Eleven be? And who is your all time favourite player?

Difficult has I am a fairly new follower of Wigan, though the best eleven for me since I've been following them are as follows.

1. Chris Kirkland
2. Pascal Chimbonda
3. Emmerson Boyce
4. Arjen DeZeeuw
5. Leighton Baines
6. Antoine Sibierski
7. Paul Scharner
8. Jimmy Bullard
9. Lee McCulloch
10. Jason Roberts
11. Henri Camara(Great Strike Partnership)

Fav player? - Leighton Baines

4 - What would you say is the best goal you have seen Latics score?

Denny Landzaat at the Emirates stadium - hard to top that one.

5 - Best away ground visited?

Never been to a Latics game since I do live a long way away from the JJB and I've never been to an away match though I do always keep a tally on their games and the results as best as I can.

6 - What are your expectations for the new season?

That we put the past season behind us for a start - second season is always tough in the premiership.

I expect good things from our new signings and that we play the best we can.

7- Are you pleased with the new signings made so far and is there any other player you would have liked to have seen us sign (realistically)?.

I would've liked to see Harewood at the JJB and was disappointed at not acquiring his signature.

All of our signings so far have been steady signings though the signings have been good so far.

I expect a lot from Sibierski and Koumas especially next season and I think we have a decent squad come next season.

8 - What are your thoughts on how last season ended and how did it compare to your expectations?

When you lose players of that quality to other clubs, it`s always going to cause a dent in the squad but I think we dealt with it well and the strong team spirit kept us going.

The signings we made were critical as everyone thought Heskey was going to be terrible but he alone and good performances all around at Bramall lane kept us up, yet in the games alone beforehand, single players made a massive contribution in keeping us in the premiership.

9 -Despite the new signings, are there any areas in the side you think need adding to?

The new striker we need now definitely.

Midfield I think is OK. Got some good strength there.

Perhaps we need to add a bit more steel to the defence but other than that, we have a good goalkeeper, a reasonable defence, a strong midfield but the striker issue needs to be resolved quickly.

10 - Where do you sit at JJB?

I have never been to the JJB stadium even though I would like to but I live a long way away from Wigan so getting to the JJB is difficult.

I live in Basingstoke down in Hampshire. I certainly would like to try and get to the JJB stadium though.

Good answers there robin and who could argue with Landzaats strike at the Emirates! Your top 11 would be a good side in the Prem also...nice one
