Wigan Athletic Ask the Fan Pt 6

Wigan Athletic Ask the Fan Pt 6

As part of the run in to the new season Vital Wigan talks to the Latics fans

The sixth interview in the series is with Vital Wigan new comer Great left peg lets see what he says

1 - How long have you been following Latics and what got you started?

My Dad got me started in the late 70's when I was 7years old

2 - What is your most memorable moment as a Latics fan? Good or Bad.

My most memorable moment was volleying a goal past Roy Tunks from outside the area into the top corner when I was the mascot against Scuntthorpe and him telling me that day that he's never seen a ball hit so hard from an 11year old

3 - Since you have been following Latics what would your Best Eleven be? And who is your all time favourite player?

1. John Brown
2. John Butler
3. Gavin Johnson
4. Arry (Capt)
5. Steve Walsh
6. Tommy Gore
7. Andy Liddell
8. Roberto
9. Emile Heskey
10. Big Lee
11. Peter Houghton

Fav player? Would have to be Lids

4 - What would you say is the best goal you have seen Latics score?

Mark Wignall's against Chelsea 1981

5 - Best away ground visited?

Sheff Utd for obvious reasons
6 - What are your expectations for the new season?

My expectations for this year are for us to attack and terrorise teams more at home and to get the fans more involved and excited because most teams don`t travel well in the Prem and sometimes are there for the mid table would be nice

7- Are you pleased with the new signings made so far and is there any other player you would have liked to have seen us sign (realistically)?.

Certainly much better than last summer... Heskey apart!

Seems like we now have a manager who knows he as to spend and more importantly pay the going rate regarding wages!

Think it could be a master stroke making Melchiot captain because he is a different class. Koumas I think will prove our best investment.

Would love to have signed Viduka or Alan Smith

8 - What are your thoughts on how last season ended and how did it compare to your expectations?

Last season i think was a massive learning curve for us all and we did well to survive, however, I still maintain that P.Jewel's management style didn't help at times and it looked like the players were scared to death to make a mistake let alone try to express themselves when it mattered (still love him to bits tho) and it was deffo time for a change.

9 -Despite the new signings, are there any areas in the side you think need adding to?

Yes there are always areas you can strengthen but the difficulty lies in getting players to come who think they might only be used as a sub i.e. Brown.

Some players don`t want to fight for their place especially at a small club like ours !

10 - Where do you sit at JJB?

Mark Wignall's two goals against Chelsea in that league cup tie are still dreamt about most nights in my sleep. That was a good team back in 81/82

Latics v Brighton - Big Game Preview

Latics are back at the DW Stadium this afternoon following a very creditable draw on Tuesday away at Leeds, the game extending our unbeaten run to four, which must give us something of a platform to build on as the season is starting to take shape.

Brighton are flying high at the moment, currently 3rd in the Championship with just one away defeat, Newcastle at St James's Park and they have players, especially in attack, of exceptional quality at this level.
