Wigan Athletic Ask the Fan Pt 11

Wigan Athletic Ask the Fan Pt 11

As part of the run in to the new season Vital Wigan talks to the Latics fans

The eleventh interview in the series is with Vital Wigan regular the exotic Thaiilatic, lets see what he says

1 - How long have you been following Latics and what got you started?

First game was against Mansfield, I think it was in 95 or 96.

We got battered.

Can`t remember the score, maybe 2 - 5, but I remember Diaz getting both of our goals.

2 - What is your most memorable moment as a Latics fan? Good or Bad.

a.) Telling my dad, a 30-year season-ticket holder at Liverpool that I wanted to go and watch the Latics with my mates, instead of Liverpool with him and my uncle.

Been called a 'bloody woolly-back` since.

The day after that, I watched the Mansfield massacre. Memorably bad!

b.) Getting promoted in '96/`97 and playing like Gods, our first ever Premiership game against Chelsea.

3 - Since you have been following Latics what would your Best Eleven be? And who is your all time favourite player?

1. Kirkland
2. Baines
3. De Zeeuw
4. Boyce
5. Chimbonda
6. Martinez
7. Kavanagh
8. Bullard
9. McCulloch
10. The Duke
11. Jason Roberts

Fav player?

Can I have players? Martinez & Bullard = gifted

Arry = Legendary

Valencia & Koumas = most exciting this season.

I completed cheated on this question, I know.

4 - What would you say is the best goal you have seen Latics score?

Heskey`s second against Everton 07/08 season. 25-yard belter, top corner. Did I tell anyone I`m a psychic by the way?

5 - Best away ground visited?

Has to be Millennium.

6 - What are your expectations for the new season?

12th place.

Good, creative, gutsy football - slightly short on goals.

7- Are you pleased with the new signings made so far and is there any other player you would have liked to have seen us sign (realistically)?

Overall, excellent signings.

Koumas and Brown will be brilliant this season.

Mario will lead the team well and Titus will answer his critics.

Only thing missing is the striker. MIDO, MIDO, MIDO. Enough said.

8 - What are your thoughts on how last season ended and how did it compare to your expectations?

I have developed a heart condition at the tender age of 28 - that`s how I feel about the end of last season!

No, seriously, we did bloody well and, in a sick way, it was a lot more interesting than watching us 'battle` for mid-table mediocrity…… Ooooh are we gonna finish 13th or 14th? Bothered?

9 -Despite the new signings, are there any areas in the side you think need adding to?

Erm….Mido.

Ridiculous we haven`t even ……. forget it. Not gonna start ranting.

10 - Where do you sit at JJB?

As much as I`d love to, I can`t manage the trip from Thailand every week.

However, thanks to the miracle of South African Cable TV, I get to watch the game from the comfort of my bar-stool - which hopefully won`t be getting kicked over as much this season!

How you stayed a Latics fan after that Mansfield game I'll never know, Whelan sacked Barrow after the loss and there was no turning back, but we were awful in the match, well done for your perseverance!
