Baines having Medical at Everton

Leighton Baines is today having a medical at Goodison Park after Wigan Athletic accepted Everton`s bid for the player

Baines is expected to sign for the Merseyside club today leaving the Latics without a recognised left back for the start of the new season

Latics boss Chris Hutchings is desperately looking for cover on the left side of defence following the collapse of Paul Robinson`s move from West Brom

Celta Vigo`s Diego Placente and Scunthorpe`s Marcus Williams have both been identified as potential target ahead of the first game of the season on Saturday

Ironically Latics first game is at Goodison Park but Baines is unlikely to feature because he is suffering from a slight and perhaps diplomatic thigh strain

It is understood that Latics have had a significant sell on clause attached to Baines`s transfer contract which could provide a decent windfall in a couple of years when Manchester United come knocking on Everton`s door

Big loss for you guy's, going to be long season for Wigan. New manager on board, he's got a tough job ahead of him. I wish you all the best, do us a favour and take some point off top 4 clubs

When you say diplomatic, are you inferring maybe Everton won't play him as part of the deal? Afterall whats stopping him, he hasnt been involved for Wigan since being pulled from a friendly squad, so he must be injury free musnt he?

I think he's still injured but if not and he signs for Everton why shouldn't he play against Wigan?
number6
agreed, i don't think it will happen anyway, Nuno Valente will probably be given the nod.
