Heskey in with England shout

Heskey in with England shout

Both the Star and Sky Sports have both latched on to comments made by Wigan Athletic boss Chris Hutchings when questioned about Heskey and England

Hutch said 'I think he (Heskey) should be in that squad. I've got every confidence of him getting back in that squad,'

Now some people will think this ludicrous, how can Emile Heskey be included in the England squad?

He plays for Wigan Athletic and doesn`t score any goals plus he`s too old.

Well one of those statements is correct, he plays for Wigan Athletic

Emile Heskey has been a revelation since his move from Birmingham City last June

Most Latics fans were sceptical about Heskey`s signing yet he walked away with the supporter`s player of the season award

Heskey is in fine form again this season, match fit and looking like he could be getting back to the player he was when at Liverpool

He is also experienced, 43 England caps and over 400 senior appearances to his name

There will be four forwards named in McClarens next England squad and there must be a place for Heskey, he has the big match experience and is a better player all round than must of the other contenders

What about the other contenders for the England squad?

Andy Johnson (Everton), playing regular first team football should be included

Michael Owen (Newcastle), not match fit but always a threat should be included

Jermaine DeFoe (Spurs) squad member for his team but like Owen always poses a threat, he would definitely benefit from regular first team action, but should be included

Darren Bent (Spurs), big money move but only a squad member needs regular football and at this stage should be left out

David Nugent (Portsmouth), didn`t show anything at Derby on Saturday to suggest he is Premiership level let alone England level should be left out

Dean Ashton (Wes Ham), needs to get fit again after a year out with injury this squad too early for him and he should be left out

So the four forwards in McClarens next squad should be Johnson, Heskey, Owen and Defoe

Heskey back in the England squad, Latics beating both Boro and Sunderland, now that would be a lovely end to the week

Wouldn't disagree, i like the idea of an old fashioned battering ram upfront, put him up front with bent and you have pace and power. PLus the knock downs for the likes of Gerrard in center mid could prove vital.... Won't happen though :(

3 years since his last England cap, he is probably a better player now
