Benfica star in Wigan link

Wigan Athletic are linked to Benfica forward Nuno Gomes along with Manchester City and Middlesbrough, according to Sky Sports

Gomes` agent a Mr Jock McTaggart (I kid you not) claims that there is interest in his player from England and that he (Gomes) would love to play in the Premiership

Benfica take on FC Copenhagen in the Champions league on Wednesday and the result of this game could determine if Gomes is going to move from the Portuguese side or stay to play Champions League football

Representatives from Latics will be in Copenhagen to cast their eye over the 31 year old

If the Latics did manage to sign a forward of the calibre of Gomes it would be some coup but at this stage Manchester City must be favourites

Benfica could be forced to cash in on their asset if they crash out of the Champions league but two days is not long to complete a transfer between two European countries
