Heskey no point to prove

Wigan Athletic and England forward Emile Heskey goes into this afternoon`s game against Israel with newspaper columnists and TV pundits screaming that Heskey needs to prove himself

Are they having a laugh?

Heskey, at 29 and with 43 caps, doesn`t need to prove anything to anyone; he does that week in and week out playing for his club side

He is in the England team today on merit, who else would get the nod in front of him?

Darren Bent is at the moment a Spurs reserve along with his team mate DeFoe, they aren`t playing regular 1st team football, not ideal if you have international aspirations

Peter Crouch at Liverpool has a similar problem, he can`t get in the first team for his club, but he is suspended for today`s game anyway

Alan Smith and Andy Johnson simply aren`t international class

Newcastle United`s Smith isn`t even an out and out striker, more a link player between midfield and attack, whilst Everton`s Johnson just runs down blind alleys and hopes for the best

Heskey`s performances at Wigan over the past 12 months have been simply awesome, he was without doubt the clubs player of the season last year and he`s started off the season where he finished the previous one, on fire

People raised an eyebrow when Paul Jewell signed Heskey for £5 million, in today`s crazy priced transfer market Emile Ivanhoe Heskey was an absolute bargain

Point to prove? Don`t think so, Heskey is the man to lead England`s front line this afternoon and again on Wednesday evening

Do you agree that Heskey is the right choice to play along side Michael Owen?

It was a good performance from him today but I can't see him starting against Russia. Crouch will be back.

Crouch isnt as mobile as Heskey but he will score more though I think Owen would prefer to play with Emile. Like you say Aamir good performance today even Hanson said he played well!

Owen probably would prefer to play with Heskey but I think Crouch will play because, as you say, he score's more goals. And before you talk about Heskey's mobility, don't forget Crouch's 2 bicycle kicks, will you?:)

What sort of a message would it send out to other players by dropping Heskey for Russia?
