Wigan - Sin-Bins at Football

Following Kevin Kilbane`s controversial sending off at Newcastle United for a second yellow card there is a call for sin-bins to be introduced into football

According to today`s Sunday People they could make an appearance as early as next season with former referee David Ellary preparing a proposal to put forward on behalf of the FA to FIFA

The idea would be that if a player receives a second yellow card in a game he would be sin-binned rather than sent-off and therefore he wouldn`t be suspended for the next game having already served some punishment

This would be a great idea and could actually lead to ludicrous decisions that saw Kilbane sent off and banned for a game a thing of the past.

It could also lead to more bookings in games, sometimes refs are a little reluctant to dish out that second yellow and send someone off, if that sending off was for say just 15 minutes then they could be willing to do so.

Sin bins a good idea?

Sin bins are worth a try, also if a player dives they should be sent to the sin bin for 10 mins

I don't think sin bins will work for sending-offs. However, I do agree with your diving suggestion. How about we make it 30 mins for Ronaldo?

Perhaps we should look at the time lapse between two yellow cards, if say you two inside forty five minutes then you're off! Or perhaps three yellows equals a sending off!
