'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Where have all our 3 o`clock`s gone?

What do supporters of Arsenal, Birmingham, Blackburn, Bolton, Chelsea, Derby, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Man City, Man U, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Portsmouth, Reading, Sunderland, Spurs and Wigan have in common?

They will all be lost for something to do at 3 o`clock today

Perhaps they could do a bit of pre-Christmas shopping or listen to up dates of the Villa West Ham game, but one things for sure they wont be watching their team play

The traditional Saturday has long been in jeopardy for supporters of Premiership clubs, but today takes the biscuit, just two games on and the Man U Wigan game a lunch time kick-off

Times were bad enough when Sky had sole rights to live football, changing fixtures, now that Setanta have joined in, well its getting a bit ridiculous, and whats with all this UEFA cup business on a Thursday!

UEFA Cup football on a Tuesday please, its traditional, but then that would clash with Champions league football, well play that on Wednesday, they already do to maximise TV coverage and revenue

Ahh, the magic word, revenue, that`s what its all about money, money and more money.

Forget the fans, now that saying is really ringing true. TV bosses will argue that the fans watch in their millions, on a Saturday lunch time, Sunday Lunch time and on Sunday and Monday evenings.

The armchair fans are they the ones that are really killing the game

Billy Potts Arsenal supporter, never been out of Doncaster in his life

Jess Jones Wigan Athletic supporter from Kent, chose the Latics as her team because she likes fairy tales, thinks Wigan is in Yorkshire

We live in a new age and for the over 35`s like me (well over), we find it hard to get our heads around the concept of no football on a Saturday afternoon, I cant get over the concept of not supporting your own town team

Any ways after this ramble the point is today is a strange day and lets hope it`s a one-off but I very much doubt it

Do you feel that Saturday should be football day or are you happy for your team to play Sunday and Monday or whatever day?

Saturdays without the footie is like a curry without a beer, just doesnt make sense
worbo
Thanks to Sky for that!
its quiet at the lib
"Where have all our 3 o`clock`s gone?" - BEHIND YOU!!! no, i disagree, i think that the armchair fans are the ones that are making the game more exciting - adding the money to the game, to attract the top class playors, to make it better to watch. sadley, i am one of the poor people that only get to watch the games on MoTD, and the occasional home game - so i dont really care when games are - just so long as the teams are funded, and i get to watch the best football in the world.
pompeycarpet
AND - there is some saterday 3pm football, so it isnt all that bad. AND, you have to think of the people who cant afford to go to games week in week out. should they not be allowed to watch the games? should football only be for the rich? be reasnable. (oh, and ill let you count the football teams in srrey...well, there is woking...but thats it.
pompeycarpet
MoTD as been around since Adam played for Eden Utd pompeycarpet, that aint the problem. The problem is I am getting old and I miss the Saturdays of my younger days and life feels strange with little or no football in my clubs division (thats all Im interested in)
worbo
I know MoTD has been around for donkies years, i was just trying to make sure you didnt think i was one of the armchair fans who think wigan is in yorkshir...its in lacashire right? LoL. Wigan have come a long way in recent years, and so has the premieship. everything changes, and now it is "weekend fixtures" not "saterday afternnon fixtures".
pompeycarpet
I'll never get used to the weekend fixtures Im a Saturday man
worbo
love my saturday footie, alternative is http://www.freefootball.org/upcoming.php at least u can watch SOME football!
ExiL

No saturday football sucks arse. Ideal weekend this week would have been - go to Fulham saturday, watch game, out drinking to hopefully celebrate, recover sunday morning, get a bit of paperwork done in the evening ready for work on Monday. Now I dont want to have a massive one tonight so I am fresh for tomorrow, and cant make an afternoon/evening of it like I wanted as have to be ready for work on Monday. Maybe a bit of a selfish whinge, but the way things are this week, feel that it prevents you from getting the most out of the weekend. Maybe Im missing something, but surely attendances would be less likely to go down if the game was on TV, but at 3pm Sat. Surely its more convenient for most to go to the game on Sat, and more people that would have gone to the game, are likely to sack it off and watch on TV because its late on Sunday. Maybe it should be trialled on one team next season to see how it affects attendance, and if the club really does suffer financial loss as a result, a little of the sky money could be set aside to compensate them.
