It was a match that saw tactics cost Wigan vital points against Birmingham
Birmingham City dominated the whole match however Wigan did manage at stages to pull off some classy plays to lead twice
The 1st half score was one all thanks to a great long ball which saw Bent use his speed to drill the shot past the Birmingham City keeper to take the lead right against the run of play
Birmingham City however scored 2 mins later thanks to a handball in the box by Scharner and Kapo sloted an easy penalty shot to level the scores
When Wigan attacked using Valencia we looked great, his speed and agility caused trouble all game down the right side and crosses into the box always looked dangerous, it was our midfield that ended up being the difference however Birmingham City failed to take advantage of their chances in the 1st half
The 2nd half was simular to the 1st, Birmingham dominating possesion and field positions with our midfield being totally dominated against, however like the 1st half a goal occured against the run of play.
Valencia again was causing trouble however this time he attracked 2 defenders to chip down the flank to an unmarked Melchiot who crossed the ball into the middle for Birmingham keeper to make a meal of it for Bent to score unmarked in the box to put Wigan up 2-1
However like the 1st half the lead didn't last long, Birmingham bombed our zone with shot after shot with Kirkland and Bramble the difference however the great work was undone when Ridgewell scored 8mins after Bents 2nd by being unmarked in the box with the ball hitting his thigh and going in
After that goal was scored Wigan only had 1 chance mainly because Valencia was moved to the left flank and Siberski looked to have streached his Hammy yet again
Along came Kapo who kicked the winner in the 81st minute and the match was over.
We looked disorganised in the midfield in defence and attack with Valencia the only real positive to come out of the match, however why he was moved to the left when he was dominating Birmingham on the right only Hutch will know
Hutchs tatics were poor, it was clear everytime we gained the lead it was the tatic of the team to defend, our strikers parked themselevs infront of the halfway line all of a sudden whilst our defence became bunched in the middle of the park
How Scharner remained on the park I don't know his 1st half was the worst from performance from a Wigan player all year.
Sibs was stretching his Hammy for 10mins before being replaced by Aga but by then we had no chance.
It was marked down as the game we had to win and well since we lost it will be intersting to see if Hutch will remain the manager for a while to come
With Chelsea winning 6-0 against Man City and the way we played today, I fear that its going to be a very very long month coming up.
Is it time for Hutch to go?
