Proud Hutch Leaves Wigan

Proud Hutch Leaves Wigan

Former Wigan Athletic manager Chris Hutchings said he was proud of his achievements at the JJB and leaves a club that will always be in his heart

Hutchings put a statement on the clubs official web site saying:

'I am immensely proud of what has been achieved at Wigan Athletic during my time here; two promotions, a cup final and three successive seasons so far in the top flight of English football - and hopefully many more in the future.

'It's a journey we have been on together since the summer of 2001 and can only be described as a real life football fairytale.

'When I was given the opportunity to manage this club I had no hesitation in taking on the challenge.

'I believe I have assembled an excellent bunch of players, a superb squad of professionals, and I still firmly believe that over time they will prove their worth and push this club to the next level.

My only regret is that I will not be here to see that progression reach its summit.

'Wigan Athletic will forever have a big place in my heart and I genuinely wish everyone associated with the place nothing but success in the future.'

Meanwhile, Wigan chief executive Brenda Spencer has admitted that a poor run of form - six consecutive losses - cost Hutchings his job.

'It's basically the results, and it is unfortunate because Chris is a great guy, an absolutely superb guy,'

'He has been here over six years and I'm led to believe he was a fantastic coach, and a really professional guy.

'But, at the end of the day what you get on the field with results is what counts.'
