Ex-Managers Are Like Ex-Lovers

Wigan Athletics love affair with Paul Jewell ended last May, not acrimoniously, but the fact remains it still ended and we need to move on

The club found it hard to let go at the time, just like a love sick teenager that had been jilted, so we went for the next best thing Chris Hutchings

That was like being dumped by your long-standing girlfriend one minute and dating her sister the next, it is never going to work out and will surely end in tears, and it did

Why do it?

Familiarity, continuity, more of the same you hope?

All the wrong reasons, when you have been in a long term relationship you need a change, something a bit different.

Paul Jewell is available again and what do the club do?

Get all excited, dump his 'sister` and ask him out for a date

Now going back with the ex is not recommended

For a start you have been a part for a while and therefore changed, so neither of you will be getting back what you expect to get

There will be a certain amount of mistrust; they have walked out on you once before, what will stop it from happening again?

What about the things that were said, the hurtful things like, 'he`s off his head` or 'we`ve gone as far as we can together`, will they be able to be forgotten?

And the most important aspect, they will think they can do what they like and walk all over you because you are desperate to take them back

Now I have never had an ex back but I know people who have and it never worked so I would say to Dave Whelan, leave well alone, you tried his sister it didn`t work, lets have something a bit different even exotic, but lets make it exciting and get some money spent on them

We should be playing the field not getting tied down with the Jeweller again

Even worse they are talking about a deal to the end of the season, leaving the Jeweller to dump us again!

We must be desperate

love the article - I think he'll go back though! Sometimes, in love, it does work out a second time :-)

I think you are right, it would be wrong to bring back Paul jewell. Its not very often that a manager returns to a club for a second spell and succeeds.

Never works out second time around, would be a bad thing to do.
will it ever happen
