Wigan Get Royle Application

It is believed that former Manchester City, Everton, Ipswich and Oldham boss Joe Royle has applied to become the next manager of Wigan Athletic

Royle was previously coveted by Latics owner Dave Whelan before he appointed Paul Jewell in June 2001 and it is believed that if Jewell decides that a return to the JJB isn`t an option then Royle will be Whelans next preferred choice

Royle has been relatively successful at all the clubs hes managed at, he took Man City from the second division to the Premiership and worked wonders at Oldham getting them into the Premiership and playing attractive football

Which ever one of the potato heads is named manager could be announced next week with Jewell meeting Latics General Manager John Benson tomorrow (Monday) and Big Joe waiting in the wings

I must say that neither would be my choice but I am slightly worried by the lack of names being muted

I think Joe Royle could be a good appointment. He's always managed to get teams who will fight and grind out results especially when at Everton.
