Latics drawn at Sunderland

Wigan Athletic face a trip to the North East as they embark on the road to Wembley

This seasons 3rd round draw sees Premiership giants Wigan and Sunderland facing each other at their first entry stage in the English premier cup competition

Latics have never been beyond the 6th round of this competition but a cup run would bring some relief to a season that promised but failed to deliver

Sunderland were well beaten at the JJB back in August and the 3-0 score line should have been greater

Since that game Latics have failed to win and we are now second from bottom but with the new boss in place there is renewed optimism and a victory at the Stadium of Light in the first week of January is not out of the question
