Walshy off to Derby

Wigan Athletic goalkeeping coach Gary Walsh has left the club to team up with former boss Paul Jewell at Derby County.

Wigan born Walsh teams up with Jewell again after not only serving under him at the Latics but also he was Jewells keeper at Bradford City when they were in the Premiership.

Walshy joined the Latics in 2003 as understudy to first team keeper John Filan and played three times for the Latics in the next three years, he retired from playing in 2006 and took up the post of full time goalkeeping coach at the JJB.

Walshy is a character and his banter will be missed around the JJB, he is also a true professional, Steve Bruce, Latics new boss told the official web site:

"Gary has conducted himself very professionally during my short stay here and he has behaved with the utmost integrity"

"When it became clear that he was going to follow Jeweller to Derby I asked him to stay on at the JJB during the busy Christmas period and not only did he honour that agreement but he gave is all for us."

Bruce went on to say:

"I understand he has been a good servant to the club in his time here and he leaves with the best wishes of everyone"

Walshy was part of the team on Wednesday that earned that famous draw at Liverpool and he leaves on a high.

Vital Wigan would like this opportunity to wish Gary Walsh all the best for the future and thanks for all you`ve done.
