Pensioners to Wigan for Cup Visit

Pensioners to Wigan for Cup Visit

Wigan Athletic have drawn FA cup holders Chelsea in the fourth round of the FA Cup and face the blues on the weekend of the 26 & 27 January.

Latics have been drawn against Chelsea twice before in the FA cup both times away from home.

The first occasion was 1978 when a Tommy Gore goal gave Latics a 0-1 victory at Stamford Bridge in a 3rd round tie; Latics went out in the next round that year 3-0 against Everton at Goodison Park.

The second time came about in 1985 when goals from Mike Newell and Paul Jewell raced the Latics into a two-nil lead only for Pat Nevin to equalise late on for Chelsea and force a replay at Springfield Park, which Chelsea won emphatically 5-0.

Chelsea will travel to the JJB for the match without several of their stars due to the African Nations Cup and a victory for Steve Bruces men cannot be ruled out in a season that was going nowhere 6 weeks ago but which is now full of optimism.

Latics for the cup anyone?

In this post-fact world, it is difficult to know who you can trust.
