The new McCulloch? Ross to Wigan

Wigan Athletic are closing in on Motherwell striker Ross McCormack who will be available on a free this summer

Middlesbrough and Hearts are also keen on the Firs Park man and Boro boss Gareth Southgate tried to land the 21 year old last month

The young Scot confirmed that he has been in touch with Latics stating:

'I've spoken to Boro, Wigan and Hearts. Motherwell are also offering me a deal so I have a big decision to make.

'My agent travelled down to both Premiership clubs and came back with glowing reports.

'Steve Bruce and Gareth Southgate seem really good guys and the feedback is they don't just see me as a squad man, they want to give me a chance and play me.

'It all sounds great but I've not decided what option is best yet.

'The Premiership is always something I wanted to try when I was a kid.

'I've had a few Motherwell fans come up and say, 'I can't believe you're leaving after giving us just one season'.

'But the Premiership doesn't come calling too often and if that's where I decide to go I'm sure anyone in my shoes would do the same.

'It could be too big an opportunity to turn down.'

McCormack started his career at Rangers where he made 11 appearances and scored twice for the Gers, he also spent a 10 game loan spell in England with Doncaster Rovers in 2006 grabbing 5 goals for the Yorkshire club

McCormack was sold to Motherwell in July 2006 and he has made 31 appearances scoring 8 times.

I remember another Motherwell striker who came and joined us, turned out to be a legend, Lee McCulloch; if McCormack is half as committed as McCulloch he would make a good signing no doubts.
