King and Melchiot doubtful

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce has been left bemoaning this weeks internationals with both Mario Melchiot and Marlon King looking doubtful to make the trip to Sunderland this Saturday.

Club skipper Melchiot came out of Holland's 3-0 win in Croatia with a thigh problem, now Bruce is waiting anxiously for the results of a scan to determine the damage.

King isn`t returning to England until Friday following his 90 minutes for Jamaica against Costa Rica on Wednesday which will leave him extremely tired and not exactly match fit.

Bruce said:

"I can't believe people can have international friendlies at a time like this when there are 'six-pointers' up for grabs'

'Unfortunately, we've had players flying off all over the world for friendlies. It's ridiculous.

'Of course we want the international team to do well, everyone respects national teams, but do we really get anything out of friendly games?'

With Emile Heskey only rated at 50/50 Latics could be down to the bare bones for one of the biggest games of the season so far.
