Bash Latics Day

Yesterday was unofficially bash Latics day.

With an "esteemed" manager of many clubs (you get the picture) having a go, a more subtle bash was inflicted by a certain esteemed National newspaper

There was a very well presented and researched piece on the proposal to play 39 games and it then showed a map with a draft of who could be played where.

There were 19 premier league teams on it including Derby, Fulham and Brum who currently occupy the bottom three but one was missing... can you guess which one?

Yep we had been replaced by Nottingham Forest!!!!!!!!!

Two questions.

Why have a pop at us, what have we done, to my mind we have shaken up the big league private members club mentality at the premier league by showing other ambitious clubs like Peterborough and MK Dons that you can rise to the top.

We didn`t throw millions at it (I wish) but with careful planning and canny management we got there and against all odds we stayed there.

The second question is why Forest?

Currently two divisions below and whilst there or thereabouts for promotion they are hardly setting pulses racing. Why not Leeds, West Brom if you are looking towards a franchise system?

A couple of years ago the Sunday version ran an article about our poor crowds. The article was accompanied by a picture showing a less than quarter full East Stand.

Fair enough you might think except that was when the away fans sat in that stand and the sparse following were actually Coventry fans.

A red top paper in its report from Boro the other week said that Wigan didn`t have a chance, true in the first half but we had more shots on target than Boro and dominated most of the second half including a brilliant save from Schwarser from an Emile header

Lets face it we will always be little Wigan we will always have to suffer the lazy journalism of " rugby town" and "Johnny come latelys" but it doesn`t mean we have to take it.

I encourage everyone to e-mail telephone or write to any media source which quotes inaccuracies regarding our beloved club or generally does us down without any evidence.

As a Bolton fan I'm used to this. If you start to beat the big clubs, if gets even worse! The answer is sites like this. Name and shame the people responsible. Name the culprits in the headline of the story - that's the bit that appears on NewsNow. We do it all the time on the Bolton site, every time the papers get something wrong. The journos hate having the tables turned on them.

You boys should be proud of yourselves. I know many a person who has written you lot off for two straight seasons, but it seems like you dont have the heart to go down. The explanation for the Notts Forrest mixup is that they are one of the 4 English teams to have won European silverware (although I think it was before the invention of fire).
