Our very close neighbours but very distant friends Bolton Wanderers, or as they are known in Wigan, Horwich RMI, travel to the JJB this afternoon for what their manager calls their biggest game of the season.
I have no time whatsoever for the supporters of this horrible club but even I had a slight bit of sympathy for the way they were treated in the midweek game in Portugal when Megson sent virtually a reserve side out to try and progress through to the next round of the Uefa Cup.
The ginger Mourinho as the Horwich fans call him got that one totally wrong, the only thing Megson has in common with Mourinho is….well there is nothing that Megson has in common with Mourinho.
There would be nothing that I would like more than to see this nasty club get relegated from the Premier League and a defeat for them today along with one next Wednesday at Old Trafford against Man Utd would start that particular ball rolling.
The only fear that I have concerning todays game is if they used their usual tactics and tried to kick their way to a result so heres hoping that the ref Mr Steve Tanner will be strong.
And Horwich fans if you`re wondering how far Megson will take you, all the way to League One…fingers crossed
Latics boss Steve Bruce
'You can see how importantly Bolton are taking it by the team they fielded in Europe on Thursday, this is massive for both teams.
'We could go six points clear of Bolton by winning on Sunday.
'To be able to build that sort of gap at this stage of the season when the games are running out, would be a huge psychological advantage for us.'
Bolton boss Gary Megson
'It's a massive game, the nine that follow are also massive, but then it's the same for everybody else around us.
'We are where we are, though. When I took over the club we were one point behind Derby at the bottom.
'Now we are in a dogfight to stay up, whereas we weren't even enjoying a dog's life 18 games ago.'
Emile Heskeys broken foot scare was just that, a scare so the big man is available.
Marcus Bent, thigh strain, and Andreas Granqvist loaned out to Helsingborgs, are the only players not available to Steve Bruce
Kirkland, Melchiot, Scharner, Boyce, Edman, Valencia, Brown, Palacios, Koumas, Heskey, King, Bramble, Kilbane, Sibierski, Taylor, Pollitt, Aghahowa, Bent, Olembe, Skoko.
Could be the game to see Wilson score his first goal for the club...this lad is a star
Well there are expected to be 10 changes from the side that crashed out of the Uefa cup so disgracefully in midweek, perhaps it should be Magson who is left out
Jaaskelainen, Nolan, Davies, Taylor, Diouf, Gardner, Campo, A O'Brien, McCann, Steinsson, Hunt, Samuel, Meite, Cahill, Giannakopoulos, Helguson, Teymourian, Vaz Te, J O'Brien, Al Habsi.
Lets hope the ref's watching this nasty thug and gives out his first red of the season
You bet there is:
Wigan Athletic 1-3 Bolton Wanderers
(Heskey 32) (Anelka 44, Teymourian 68 & 73)
