Latics v Birmingham Preview

Wigan Athletic
vs.
Birmingham City

DW Stadium

19/03/11

3pm

Wigan Athletic face Birmingham City in what is a massive game for both clubs down at the bottom end of the table.

Sat in the bottom three at this stage of the season is a worrying predicament, but moping about and feeling sorry for ourselves won`t get us out of this position, what is needed is for the team and the fans to pull together and fight for Premier League survival.

Starting with today`s game, the Latics face nine cup finals, each one will be a battle, each one will test the mental strength of the players as well as their playing ability, and each one will hopefully be a step towards safety.

What The Bosses Say:

Latics boss Roberto Martinez:

'We have got nine games - 27 points to play for'

'We are prepared to give our lives for the cause and as a football club we are ready to experience that challenge.

'We are in the worst position in the table but it can only get better. The way we see it, if we play with the bravery and the courage we have shown, we will have an opportunity to be successful again.

'It is not time to look back. We all know the reasons why we are in this situation.'

Brum boss Alex McLeish:

'Of course our position in the table is not what we want it to be. But now our focus is on the league and, no question, we're ready.

'They're all big games we've got coming up now. There are no guarantees. But we have got a great attitude, good experience and will look to try and get up that league.'

Wigan Athletic Team News:

Tricky one this. We need a win, no doubt about that. To win we have to change, we have to score goals. If we go for Sammon with Hugo just behind him, I see 3 goals for us, and 2 for Brumy, because they can score goals, and they'll be better at it, if we have to attack more, but I think we'll edge it.
