Following a poor performance away at Bournemouth on Saturday Owen Coyle's charges have the opportunity to get back on track when they face another of the newly promoted sides, Doncaster Rovers, at the DW Stadium tonight
If the Latics have aspirations of bouncing back into the Premier League at the first attempt then, without any disrespect to Doncaster, these are the games that they have to win. The first of three home games, the points need putting in the bag before the Europa League starts next month.
Doncaster came up as Champions and Paul Dickov's side had a great victory on Friday against Blackburn, so they will be no pushovers, but this is our first home game of the season so a good performance, goals and three points have to be the order of the day
There will be a decent gate on tonight and there is a buzz ahead of the game, let's hope that the lads produce and get the show back on song
Latics boss Owen Coyle:
'It's our first home game and we're all looking forward to kicking off our home campaign in front of our own fans who I must say have been nothing short of magnificent on our travels so far this season.
'We've had the hardest start of all the teams in the league, but they've inspired the players and we can't wait to be surrounded by them on Tuesday.
'The aim is to reward them, with a fantastic performance and three points against Doncaster.
'Paul Dickov's side picked up a great result against Blackburn Rovers on Friday night, so they'll come to the DW Stadium full of confidence and with a game plan designed to frustrate us.
'What we must do is stick together and believe in ourselves so we can bring our qualities to the game; if we do that I'm convinced we'll be able to take maximum points'
Doncaster boss Paul Dickov:
'We'll go to Wigan and try to win the game.
'Of course we'll respect them a lot because they've got a lot of top players.
'But we can go there with a bit of belief.
'We know how tough it will be but we can go there, play with a lot of freedom and try to win the game.
'Nobody is expecting us to win so why not go there and have a go.'
Long term casualties Al Habsi, Ramis and Caldwell are all out until October, Rogne is still missing with a back injury, Callum McManaman is suspended and Coyle says - '...we have one or two injury worries...but I'm hopeful that we will have the same squad to select from as we did for our last game.'
Latics possible - Carson, Boyce, Perch, Barnett, Crainey, McArthur, McCarthy, Watson, Beausejour, Maloney, Holt
We need a big game from the little man to bounce back from Saturdays defeat

Marc De Val Fernandez is out with ligament damage, Harry Forrester isn't quite up to match fitness, but Dean Furman is available after not returning from international duty in time for Friday nights win over Blackburn
Doncaster from - Turnbull, Husband, Jones, Khumalo, Wabara, Keegan, Wellens, Coppinger, Cotterill, Syers, Brown, Robinson, Duffy, Maxted, Paynter, Quinn, McCullough, Bennett, Furman
Ex Latics players have a habit of returning to play against us and having stormers, I liked Cotterill during his time and his goal against West Ham at Upton Park was sheer class, definitely one to watch
Latics play Doncaster Rovers tonight for the first time since 2002 when we lost 1-0 at the then JJB Stadium in the LDV Trophy, the last time we met Donny in the league was way back in February 1997
Possibly the most famous game between the two clubs, for Latics fans at least, came in 1965 when, following a 2-2 draw at Bell Vue, the Latics played Doncaster at Springfield Park in an FA cup 1st round replay
Early in the first half Latics striker Harry Lyon was carried from the field on a stretcher with suspected ankle ligament damage, with no substitutes allowed at this stage and his team down to ten men Lyon had his ankle and foot heavily strapped up, took a tot of whiskey as a pain killer and returned to the field of play to score a second half hat-trick and secure a 3-1 win for the Latics, the stuff legends are made of
The Latics and Doncaster have met 29 times in all competitions
Latics 12 wins, Doncaster 9, draws 8
