Latics v Charlton Match Preview

Uwe Rösler will be expecting his team to get stuck into the opposition today from the off after being critical of the way his team started against Middlesbrough in midweek. Looking for a high tempo start, the Latics boss will be hoping to catch Charlton on the back foot and if we can get a couple of early goals then it could be a very enjoyable afternoon for the Latics fans.

Charlton aren't in the best run of form, just one win from six and this week their goalkeeper, central midfield player and leading goal scorer have all left for pastures new.

I harp on about the clubs play- off ambitions every week, but if they are serious, then this surely is a must win game.

What The Bosses Say:

Latics boss Uwe Rösler - 'Charlton have brought in quite a few players and that's not optimal for our preparations because we have new things to things about, but I'm sure Chris won't be using all five of his new players at once.

'He will ease a few of those players in, but I doesn't really matter who plays because I know we're going to come up against a strong and organised team who want to make up for their 3-0 loss to Doncaster.

'I know Chris Powell very well and Charlton will make it very hard for us to break them down.

'We will have to earn the right to do that, we need to be patient but make sure that we play with the correct tempo.'

Charlton boss Chris Powell - 'It would be silly for us not to use the network because there are a number of talented players out there.

'Why not use that to our advantage? We have got a lot of games coming up so bringing in these players means we are going to be able to put some fresh legs in and keep the players up to a good standard.

'They will have to get used to what the Championship is about. We are under pressure like all the teams down there and we need to start picking up points.

'I've always wanted to improve the squad and the new boys are talented. I want the fans to know that we are trying to improve the squad to get the results that we want for them.

'Things are tough for the side at the moment and we want them to be behind us all the way.'

Wigan Athletic Team News:

Shaun Maloney, Gary Caldwell and Scott Carson are definitely out, no word on Thomas Rogne or Callum McManaman, Nick Powell is rated 50/50 and will have a late fitness test.

There is no word on whether new loan striker Martyn Waghorn signed before the noon deadline for being involved today, so wait and see on that one, but Josh McEachran will definitely be on the bench today.

Hard to second guess Rosler's team selection at the moment, but:

Latics possible - Al Habsi, Perch, Boyce, Barnett, Beausejour, McCann, Watson, Espinoza, McClean, Powell, Fortune

Player to watch: Roger Espinoza

Charlton Athletic Team News:

Ben Alnwick, Dale Stephens and top scorer Yann Kermogrant have all left for new clubs in the past couple of days, whilst new signings Loic Nego and Reza Ghoochannejhad will be added to the squad and Rhoys Wiggins is back from a ban and a freshly signed extension to his contract.

Lawrie Wilson is suspended following his red card in the 3-0 midweek defeat at Doncaster, Ben Hamer, Chris Solly and Leon Cort are out injured.

Charlton from - Thuram-Ulien, Lennon, Dervite, Morrison, Evina, Wood, Ajdarevic, Jackson, Cousins, Church, Harriott, Pigott, Sordell, Green, Nego, Ghoochannejhad

Player to watch: Simon Church

There will be a lot of weight placed on Church to get the goals following Kermogrant's sale
