Yet another abysmal performance turned in by players not fit to wear the shirt, they maybe have a bit of skill but most lack the passion to turn that skill into something worthwhile.
We turned up today looking to play a containing game with a packed midfield, yet we stood two yards off United players and gave them so much time on the ball in and around our own penalty box that it was embarrassing.
For the second tonking in a row Martinez picked the wrong team, at Old Trafford possession is of a premium and it is very important when you have the ball to keep hold of it, so why oh why did he expect Rodallega to be able to play the lone striker role and hold the ball up when the manager himself has admitted that he isn`t strong enough to do that, Jason Scotland was sat on the bench and for all his misgivings and he does have many, his hold up play and link up play is quite good and a lot better than Hugo`s who is an off the shoulder striker.
What an occasion for Cho Won-Hee to make his first start? The hot news today is of the South Koreans return to South Korea because Martinez doesn`t think him good enough to play regularly for the Latics and we find him thrown in at the deep end, clearly no where near match fit and so far off the pace I was hoping he was going to be replaced after 20 minutes, he lasted the full 90.
The goals when they came where poor defensively though by the time Rooney had notched the first one on 28 minutes we could and should have been four behind, Rafael was allowed oceans of space and eons of time as he crossed in from the right and Rooney met the ball at the near post with a prod of the foot 1-0.
7 minutes later Michael Carrick scored as though he was in a training session and just before half time United full back Rafael was given time to dance about in the Latics box before he fired home to make it 3-0.
Mike Pollitt replaced Chris Kirkland in the Latics goal at half time and shortly after Pollitt carried on where Kirkland left off picking the ball out of the net on 50 minutes when Berbatov converted Valencia`s cross after the Ecuadorian was given the freedom of Old Trafford by the Latics defence.
Valencia himself concluded the scoring when he was allowed to run into the area and slam home a powerful shot on 75 minutes and at 5-0 Latics were some what flattered
Both Thomas and N`Zogbia showed signs of descent when they were replaced and there appears to be some trouble at mill, personally I thought we looked like a non-league side who had drawn a plumb cup tie and just gone for the thrill, only we played with a lot less passion, desire and belief.
United were ruthless but the Latics were toothless, a pathetic apology for a performance, in my opinion much worse than the shambles at Spurs, something must give.
