Another game another defeat, flat upfront and slack at the back, it's the same old story, enough chances to win a couple of games but failure in front of goal puts pressure on a shaky back line and quicker than an Alcaraz gozz the games lost.
To say that Wolves looked poor would be an understatement, but then again so did Fulham and so did Bolton and they both beat us with a two goal margin, hey oh we are in one hell of a rut.
The Latics started brightly, though Wolves did have the first effort, Edwards shot was saved by Al-Habsi, but a nervous looking home side allowed Martinez's men to get a grip on the game, Rodallega fluffed three good chances, first off was a header that he put well wide, then moments later he hit a shot that was more reminiscent of one of Wigan's ladies on a Saturday night up King Street trying to kick a tin can in a pair of stilettos. The third effort had disastrous consequences for the Latics.
Put clean through by his strike partner Di Santo, Rodallega shot wide from three yards with the goal at his mercy, just 37 seconds later Wolves took the lead. Jamie O'Hara showed if you hit the target you have half a chance when he swept home following a good move and pass from Doyle. 1-0, 32 minutes gone.
With half-time approaching Emmerson Boyce made a run into the Wolves area with the ball, a clumsy challenge from Hunt left Boycey sprawling and Lee Probert pointing to the spot, up stepped Ben Watson, Hennessey saved the penalty but parried it straight back to Watson who made sure on the second time of asking, 1-1.
Wolves went back in the lead on 55 minutes when Edwards fired home from close range following a magnificent double save from Ali, a pity the rest of the team's reactions aren't as quick, 2-1.
It was 3-1 eleven minutes later when Ward pounced from close in, Rodallega was replaced by Sammon on 77 minutes and the Irishman put more effort into the last ten minutes than what his Colombian team-mate had done for the previous 80 minutes. The former Kilmarnock striker going close with a good effort that almost looped over Hennessey, Steve Gohouri was also denied by Hennessey when his header was pushed out at the near post.
It might be only November but the signs aren't looking good, we're a side devoid of confidence and quality, getting turned over by awful teams, Blackburn are up next but I think we are now past the must win games.
