Latics 0-1 Man City

Wigan Athletic may have lost this game to Manchester City, but they weren`t disgraced. In fact there was just one goal separating the sides who sit at opposite ends of the Premier League, Edin Dzeko's 22nd minute header proving to be the winner.

The game started brightly with City on the ascendancy, Dzeko went close with a thundering header that he put just wide of Al-Habsi's right post, but the Latics were also showing and a chance when there was confusion in the City defence with the ball pinging about went begging.

City then took the lead, Dzeko went down like he'd been shot under the gentlest of challenges from Alcaraz, the resultant free-kick from David Silva had superb delivery and was met by Dzeko who muscled the Latics defence out of the way to plant a header in the back of the net. 0-1.

The rest of the half belonged to the visitors, Dzeko and Aguero caused problems for the Latics defence, whilst Martinez's men showed little to nothing up front.

The second half was much better from a Latics perspective, though Al-Habsi had to be at his best with a fantastic save and somehow Dzeko, following some exceptional close control from Aguero, took the ball off the Argentine strike and hit the tamest of tame shots into Ali's midriff.

James McCarthy almost snatched a point late on but Joe Hart saved well with his feet.
