Latics 1 - 1 West Brom

How this game wasn`t put to bed after just 10 minutes of play is beyond me. Four great chances spurned with the Latics totally dominant. Di Santo could have had a hat-trick and Emmerson Boyce smacked a header against the bar with an open goal at his mercy

James McCarthy saw a powerful drive also crash against the bar after Albion keeper Ben Foster just managed to get his finger tips to the stinging drive.

The Latics played some delightful football, Shaun Maloney getting his first Premier League start this season was inspirational and the ever impressive Jean Beausejour was delivering quality balls into the penalty area, the biggest surprise of the first half was that it was goalless

The second half started in the same vein, the Latics were cruising and it seemed only a matter of time before they opened their account, on 54 minutes Figueroa hit a glorious crossfield ball to Emmerson Boyce, the Latics wingback knocked it on to Victor Moses who darted into the penalty area, under pressure from two West Brom defenders Moses hit a low cross which was scuffed by an Albion defender straight into the path of James McArthur, the Latics midfield man prodded home from two feet, 1-0

Latics usual misgivings when defending set pieces saw old boy Paul Scharner head home an equaliser on 65 minutes, the Austria international was allowed a free header from an in swinging corner with both Alcaraz and Di Santo culpable, 1-1

The Latics pressed to get the lead back and Diame had a great chance near to the end, free six yards out the Senegal international hit his shot wide with the goal at his mercy. An Albert Crusat cross was deflected on to the post by West Brom defender Jones with just seconds remaining and the game ended 1-1

Over twenty goal scoring opportunities created but just one taken, games running out, someone needs to find their golden touch before it really is too late

Star Player

Jean Beausejour - Another great game from Jean, some fantastic balls into the box, pity no one got on the end of them

As Paul Scharner said "Wigan are bottom because they can't score and they concede every game", or words to that effect. Face it, we're down. Look at our next 5 games. 1 point maybe against Stoke, and that's about it, unless a miracle happens against one of the big boys. Thank ***** my depression has been lifted by the start of the Formula 1 season!
