Latics 1-2 West Brom

The Latics were looking for a third win on the bounce when they entertained West Brom at the DW Stadium on Saturday, unfortunately, despite a bright and promising opening 30 minutes it was the Baggies who grabbed the points

Latics looked like they were going to swap West Brom early on, some great movement, slick passing and pacey play had the Midlanders chasing shadows, the experts always say make the possession and pressure tell by getting a goal otherwise you end up getting caught out, that`s exactly what happened.

Despite seeing very little of the ball West Brom took the lead on 31 minutes, Brunt sent an excellent cross into the six yard area and James Morrison came steaming in to plant a great header into the back of the net

Going behind rocked Martinez`s men a little and the Baggies came more into the game, they extended their lead on 43 minutes when a Jones cross was deflected into the net by the outstretched leg of Gary Caldwell

Two minutes later though and Kone had reduced the deficit, Jean Beausejour put a delightful ball low and hard into the West Brom six yard box, Kone crashed home from close range at the back post, 1-2 half-time

The second half saw the Latics huff and puff to try and get the equaliser, but there was a lack of quality in the final ball, Di Santo and Caldwell both should have done better with headers that went off target and that was about it

An entertaining game, West Brom are a decent side, nothing to get despondent about
