Latics made the FA cup quarter-finals for only the second time in the clubs history with a comprehensive victory over Huddersfield at the John Smiths Stadium
The goals came from, Callum McManaman, Arouna Koné twice and a James McArthur rocket as the Latics marched on in comfortable fashion
Roberto Martinez revealed that he had told McManaman that he wasn't in the team the night before, because he gets too hyped up, well his tactic of keeping the youngster's stress levels down worked a treat, on 31 minutes, having already gone close to breaking the deadlock, McManaman skipped into the Huddersfield box from the Latics left, he had two defenders challenging him but this didn't stop him from unleashing a thunderous left footed effort that flew past Alex Smithies in the Huddersfield goal, 0-1
Latics were completely dominating the first half and it was no surprise when the second goal came on 40 minutes, McManaman again caused problems attacking from the left, he pulled the ball back for Jordi Gomez who hit a well drilled shot, the ball was parried by Smithies but fell for Koné to back heel into the net from a yard out, 0-2
Huddersfield made two changes at half time bringing on Vaughan and Novak to give their side more of an attacking threat, but it was the Latics who grabbed the next goal, a lovely interchange of passes between McArthur, Fyvie and Gomez ended with James McArthur unleashing an unstoppable effort from 20 yards to give Smithies no chance, 56 minutes gone, 0-3
Novak pulled a goal back for the home side with a lovely header on 62 minutes, James Vaughan also went close, but the Latics saw out the game with relative ease and scored another goal to cap off a very good display in the 89th minute
A defensive lapse allowed Koné to pick the ball up 30 yards out, he powered his way into the Huddersfield box, with Latics sub Shaun Maloney well placed to his left Koné decided to make sure himself and blasted home to seal the victory, 1-4
A very good display and a great result, now on to the quarters
