Everton 0-3 Latics

Any doubts that the Latics aren't taking the FA cup seriously were simply blown away as they put in a devastating performance to leave Everton and their fans at Goodison Park well and truly shell shocked, a blistering first half with three very good goals sealed the passage for a first ever FA cup semi-final and a trip to Wembley in April

Roberto Martinez named his strongest starting eleven in the competition this season, a welcome return to first team duty for long term absentee Antolin Alcaraz was a real bonus as the teams were read out and there was definitely a buzz about the lads from Wigan

In the opening exchanges it was the Latics who looked most likely to score, Shaun Maloney struck the inside of the post with a tremendous curling effort from 25 yards and Arouna Koné was running the Everton back line a merry dance.

It wasn't a surprise when the opening goal came on 30 minutes and was just about what the Latics deserved on the balance of play, a corner was swung into the box from the right and Maynor Figueroa lost his marker to plant a firm header into the back of the net giving Mucha in the Everton goal no chance, 0-1

If that was no surprise to score again one minute later was, Everton looked visibly shell shocked with the dominance of the Latics and the pressing by Martinez's men was forcing errors from the home side, Phil Neville had the ball on the half way line and he attempted to knock the ball back to centre half Distin, instead he found Latics wideman Callum McManaman who outpaced the Everton defence and coolly slotted beyond Mucha from 10 yards, 0-2

Two minutes later the game was over, a quick break out of defence, the ball was knocked to Koné who, from wide left, found Jordi Gomez just outside the Everton box, the Latics midfield man hit a stunning effort that curled around two defenders and into the bottom corner of the net, 0-3

Loud boos rang out from the home supporters, but the score-line was more to do with the performance of the Latics rather than a poor display from Everton

Further chances were created before the half-time whistle and it's no exaggeration to suggest that we could've gone in for our cuppa four or five goals up

Moyes tried to shake things up, bringing on Anichebe for Neville, but the Latics simply played out the remainder of the game at their pace and a fantastic overall performance saw us progress to the semi-final of the worlds most glamorous domestic cup competition for the first time in our history

Brilliant

Star Player

Quite difficult to pick one player out, but if pressed I'd have to go for Shaun Maloney, involved in everything and unlucky not to grab a couple of goals himself

After finally calming down (well, that and drinking far too much last night), just thought I would pop in and congratulate you guys on what was a brilliant performance. You outfought, outsmarted, outplayed and just outclassed Everton from start till finish, cannot remember the last time a visiting side dominated Everton like what Wigan did yesterday. Best of luck on your trip to Wembley (hopefully 2 trips), although one does ask the question, if Wigan are capable of putting in a performance like that, how on Earth are you in the relegation zone? Anyway, well done and good luck lads.

Same question here Rob!...we have been hammered with injuries to key defenders this season and this has had a massive effect on us...hopefully two Wembley trips and a climb up the table...thanks for the congratulations Rob
