Reading 1 Latics 2 - Report

A buoyant Latics went to the Madejski Stadium and beat Reading in their own back yard, a goal apiece from Chris McCann and Nick Powell put Uwe Rosler's charges in command with just 12 minutes on the clock, although Pogrebnyak pulled a goal back with just over 20 minutes remaining a solid defensive display ensured that the points came back up North

The big surprise as the team news was read out was the inclusion of Ali Al Habsi in the starting eleven for his first appearance of the season, Callum McManaman and James McClean were also named alongside Nick Powell giving the Latics a very attack looking line up

Latics made a great start to the game, with 10 minutes gone James McClean cut inside down the left and hit a shot that was blocked by Reading defenders, the ball fell back to McClean who calmly picked out the in rushing Chris McCann who confidently hit a side footed shot from 18 yards into the bottom left hand corner of the Reading goal, 0-1.

Two minutes later and the lead was doubled, Thomas Rogne punted a long ball up field, the Reading defence made a right miss mash of dealing with it, Nick Powell was onto the loose ball in a flash, one touch and then the 19 year old hit a great effort beyond Reading keeper McCarthy, 0-2.

Reading pushed to get back into the game before half time, the closest they came though was through Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak who forced a good save from Al Habsi

Jordi Gomez and Will Keane replaced McManaman and Powell at half time, but it was Reading who had the best chance to score as the second half started, Chris McCann was adjudged to have pulled down Chris Gunter with the merest of touches, the Reading man went down as if shot and referee Gary Sutton bought it and awarded a penalty for the home side

Justice was done though as Billy Sharp fired the spot kick high over Al Habsi's bar

Both Keane and Gomez went close to increasing the Latics lead, McCarthy was equal to the efforts though and it was Reading who got the final goal of the game, Pogrebynak heading home on 68 minutes from a decent right wing cross, 1-2

Latics hung on and took the three points despite the referee adding six minutes stoppage time, Reading just couldn't break down the door and Uwe Rosler maintains his 100% league win record as boss of Wigan Athletic

Great three points
Hopefully we are on a roll now but we can't get carried away like Rosler said we just have to keep working hard as a team. Then the results will come
