Another win, another Nick Powell goal and another red card. What a day for Latics. In all seriousness, this was a massive result and a real statement to the rest of the league. Without two of our star players this season in Michael Jacobs and Sam Morsy, we still managed to come away from a tough away ground with three points.

Paul Cook was forced into two changes with Morsy away on international duty and Jacobs being sidelined with injury. Max Power came into midfield, and did very well may I add, while Gary Roberts played out wide.

The first half was scrappy, with Latics probably just shading it. Nick Powell and Will Grigg came close to opening the scoring on a couple of occasions, while Dan Burn blocked what was a certain goal to make sure the score was 0-0 at half-time.

Then Superman arrived to save the day. Dan Burn, yes Dan Burn, turned like Dennis Bergkamp in his prime and smashed a left footed shot into the top corner to give Latics a 0-1 lead.

That gave us the confidence to seemingly go on and win the game comfortably. Ex Wigan 'keeper Matt Gilks produced a great save to deny Grigg his third goal in two games. In typical fashion, Latics had to make hard work of the win. Lee Evans reacted angrily to a foul, and saw red for a headbutt. That's Latics' fourth red card in 12 games, a big problem for Paul Cook.

Despite the red card, we still dominated the game and deservedly took a 0-2 lead. Powell latched on to a long ball and finished easily. That's what will win us this league, he can create/score a goal from nothing.

Scunthorpe huffed and puffed for the remaining 20 minutes, and did eventually grab a consolation goal.

Overall, a very big three points. Without the red card I think we'd of win that game by three or four, but I'm sure this discipline problem is starting to worry Cook now. Chey Dunkley's red card cost us two points vs Portsmouth and Evans could have done the same yesterday. There's no doubting we are the best team in this league, let's not throw it away with petty red cards.

Up the tics.

Man of the Match: Dan Burn. Brilliant finish for the goal and defended resolutely in the second half.
