Wigan 0-0 Blackburn Match Report

Wigan Athletic
0 - 0
Blackburn Rovers

DW Stadium

Attendance: 11,211

That certainly wasn't a vintage Latics performance. What an awful game of football, not helped at all by the referee. On the plus side, Shrewsbury Town lost a game of football- which puts us go one point behind them.

Paul Cook named the same side that beat Blackpool 1-3 last week, which meant Max Power retained his place in the team and the returning Lee Evans started on the bench.

The home side had two good shouts for penalties turned down in the opening 25 minutes. First Ivan Toney appeared to be dragged to the floor, then Nick Powell looked to be fouled on the edge of Rovers' penalty area.

Powell tried to take matters into his own hands and sent a curling shot just wide from 30 yards. The first half was scrappy, with very few chances created by either side.

Bradley Dack should have put Blackburn infront shortly after the break. Craig Conway's cross found the former Gillingham man from close range, but he scooped the ball over the crossbar.

On 57 minutes, Rovers defender Elliot Bennett was shown a second yellow card for diving. Wigan nearly took immediate advantage when Callum Elder was played in from a brilliant pass by Powell, however his shot was well saved by David Raya.

Gavin Massey came close to opening the scoring, his shot beat the 'keeper but not the post.

It wasn't be to be for Latics as the game ended 0-0. An off day for sure in the final third, Powell tried to win the game on his own, but Rovers set up well for a point and got it.

Up the tics.
