'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Halifax Town 0 - Wigan Athletic 4

The Shay

28th July 2007

Attendance:

Latics on the Town

Played under the golden orb belived to be called the sun Wigan eased to a comfortable 4-0 win over a spirited but limited conference side.

Manager Chris Hutchings made several changed to the team that laboured to a 2- 1 win over Blackpool in midweek.

England international Chris Kirkland replacing Mike Politt in the goal

Leighton Baines who is strongly linked with a move to Everton replacing Kilbane at left back and Landzaat and Folan replacing Cottrill and Agahowa respectively.

The new line up reaped a reward almost straight away when a fine shot on the turn from Emile Heskey beat the home goalkeeper.

For the rest of the first half Wigan were on top without seriously pressurising the home keeper, several shots from the industrious Shcarner being either just wide of the mark or comfortably saved.

Wigan looked more dangerous on the right with Melchiot the man of the match and Valencia striking up a particular fine understanding.

Landzaat controlled midfield spraying quality passes all over the park and it was no surprise when just before half time when the Latics increased their lead.

Landzaat played the ball to Koumas who fired a shot into the bottom right hand corner a shot which any goalkeeper would have found difficult to stop

Half time Wigan showed several changes Kilbane for Baines, Politt for Kirkland and Agahowa for Folan

The second half showed Wigan's continued dominance and was marked by the first goals from Julius Agahowa who finished off good moves and celebrated with his gymnastic display.

More changes were made late in the game with Cottrill and Ashworth replacing Heskey and Koumas.

All in all a good workout for the guys and a pleasure to see football played on the ground and nice to see the players come over to applaud the approx 400 WIgan fans who made the trip over the pennines
