Pen Pic

Former England Under-21 defender who signed from Newcastle United in June 2007.

Newcastle had signed him five years earlier from Ipswich for 5 million.

At Ipswich he made his debut at the age of just 17 and played a key role in the centre of defence as Town recorded a superb fifth-placed finish in the 2000/2001 season.

Powerful figure at the back and a tremendous athlete who can also make an impression in opposing penalty boxes.

Player of the season 2008/09
Moved to Sunderland July 2010 for 3 million
