Martínez began his career at his home-town club C.F. Balaguer in the Spanish Third Division before moving to Real Zaragoza in La Liga where he made his senior debut.

He was offered the chance to move to England by Dave Whelan, chairman of Wigan Athletic and he signed on a free transfer on 25 July 1995 , becoming one of Wigan's famous 'three amigos' alongside Jesus Seba and Isidro Diaz.

Martínez spent six seasons at Wigan, making 180 appearances for the club (with a further 47 as substitute), scoring 23 goals.

He was instrumental in the changing of the clubs fortunes and will always be a true LATICS LEGEND

Bobby is now manager of Division one side Swansea City and has former team mate from the Latics, Graeme Jones as his assistant
