Bruce needs to spend

Latics this week distanced themselves from the fee asked for Christina Benitez by his parent club.

Whilst it is noble that we will not be held to ransome , our failings in front of goal season after season will surley cost us our Premier League status if they are not urgently addressed.

Whilst our top scorer this season has reached double figures, his failure to score since the trun of the year has seen Latics slump to 19th out of 20 in the goals for tabel with only Boro worse than ourselves.

Six goals in our last fourteen games and only fifteen at home this season out of seventeen games is a serious cause for concern.

The blame cannot be laid at Zaki's door but is a collective failure of the players at the club and at the reluctance of the management to spend to secure quality goal scoring forwards.

The difference this season has been the lack of goals from other players such as Scharner who hasn't found the net this season and the other strikers.

At the club we have Mido who has scored ten goals in his last fifty premier league games, SIbierski who has scored seven goals in his last fifty nine premeir league games and Rodellega who hasn't scored in seven games for the Latics.

Indeed the second highest goal scorer for the club this season is Emile Heskey with four goals who left the club in January.

Where as Latics have always been able to sign top quality defenders and midfielders for 4-5 million pounds , strikers cost considerably more and the club appears to balk at paying the price needed to secure those players services.

Failure to do that this summer, will I believe, guarentee a relegation struggle next season.
