Benson a key to success

Benson, who as general manager has engendered mixed emotions amongst the Latics faithful, during his tenure at Wigan should be seen as a vital cog in Latics future.

Benson was Bruce's chief negotiator over player contracts both for exisitng players and new signings. As a result of this, with Bruce taking his backroom staff with him, Benson remains the only consistent factor at the club and as such will be seen by the club as having the knowledge and skills to advise the incoming manager on who to buy , retain etc.

The taciturn Benson is much admired by Mr Whelan and is 'vital' to the Latics' future.
