A Special Mention To... Will Grigg

A Special Mention To... Will Grigg
Friday night's 1-1 draw at AFC Fylde in the FA Cup second round was disappointing, but there were many positives from what was a largely dominant display.

One of those positives was the performance of centre forward Will Grigg, who seems to be showing us glimpses that he might be getting back to his best.

Admittedly, the Northern Ireland international had a quiet second half, however, that can be forgiven as we should have been out of sight rather than getting ready for a replay at the DW Stadium.

As we saw, players such as Gavin Massey and Lee Evans, among others, missed glaring chances to give us a commanding lead.

Grigg, on the other hand, didn't miss. He had one clear chance which he buried when he headed home Nathan Byrne's delightful cross to give us a deserved lead.

That's the Will Grigg we all know and love and that goal made it two in three starts for the 26-year-old since he replaced Ivan Toney in the starting eleven.

His high work rate was also on display as he ran the channels and constantly put the Coasters' centre-backs under pressure.

Above all that, what impressed me the most was Grigg's link-up with Massey, Max Power and Michael Jacobs - something that Paul Cook will be encouraged by considering how he likes his three players behind the striker to come narrow and create space for the overlapping full-backs.

So there you have it, this week it's a special mention to... Will Grigg!
