A Special Mention To... Max Power

A Special Mention To... Max Power
He may have only been on the pitch for around 10 minutes against Shrewsbury Town, but midfielder Max Power was unfortunate not to win the game for Wigan Athletic.

The 24-year-old's wonderful dipping half-volley with his left foot cannoned agonisingly off the crossbar, as Salop held on for a crucial point in the League One promotion push.

Undoubtedly, Power has been unlucky not to start the last couple of games for Latics. Having waited 21 months for a goal, he's scored three league goals in three games - all as a substitute.

In Max's case, and he admitted this in his post-match interview after the record 7-0 victory at Oxford United, he's just unfortunate to be competing with players like Wolves loanee Lee Evans, captain Sam Morsy and maverick Nick Powell.

Having said that, I believe Power definitely deserves a start sooner rather than later and I think that start will come in tomorrow night's home match against Charlton Athletic.

In my opinion, Cook will be tempted to slot him in the number 10 spot instead of Powell. Given Powell's injury record, three starts in a week might be pushing his body to the limit and the last thing we want is to lose him to a long-term injury.

For me, the only way the former Manchester United forward starts over Power versus the Addicks will be because of his ability to produce a piece of magic from absolutely nothing.
